A sublime and surreal comedy!

 

At a run down pet cemetery in the California desert, caretaker Hertel Dagget’s solitude is broken by an aspiring real estate magnate, an ex-wife, and his presumed-dead mother to turn his property into a shopping mall. This dark comedy is a hilarious yet disturbing study of devotion to ideals in the face of urban sprawl.

 

Hertel's fight to protect the forty burnt out acres from the forces of reality is a mixture of the sublime and surreal—dinosaurs, cave men, Egyptians, Godzilla and gospel music—answering the primal question: what makes man different than all the other animals?
